Please join us Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Fiore II in Middletown, CT for a discussion led by David Toce, PE of Toce Structural Engineering LLC on the structural considerations for temporary shoring.
Temporary shoring has been traditionally a delegated design construction task where the project design structural engineering team requires an outside engineer independent of the design team to design the temporary support system to allow the installation of the new building components. What should the structural designer put on the drawings? How can the structural designer create structural details that can make shoring more rational, thus more cost effective? What are some of the more difficult and complicated retro-fit details to shore? What are key items a structural engineer should look for in a proper temporary shoring submittal? Case studies will be shown with a few out of ordinary projects, with the all popular “what not to do” things thrown in for fun.
David is a Principal of Toce Structural Engineering, LLC in Milldale, CT. As Engineer of Record (EOR), he is responsible for the structural design, detailing, and drafting on projects along with contract administration and the implementation of the special inspections program. He also provides delegated structural design services for many building elements including, but not limited to, light gauge metal framing, metal wall or roof panels, aluminum curtain wall or storefront systems, temporary shoring and scaffold designs, steel stairs, railing, and other custom steel fabricated items.
The meeting will be hosted at Fiore II located at 332 Main Street in Middletown, CT 06457 on Wednesday March 18th, from 5:30 pm to 9pm.
